Tank-wise, a 125 is about the largest I can find locally. With a solid filtration system and decent planting, it should be sufficient for 6 or 8 sunfish
I'm concerned that multiple species may fight for territory. I had a green sunfish dropped into my community tank by my brother. It was the most aggressive fish I had ever had until he put a black molly in the tank and then the sunfish became tame. A one inch black molly beat up a nearly 4 inch inch sunfish sufficient that all it did was cower.
If they're anything like the larger cichlids, you just need to give them structures in which to establish territories. Bluegills and pumpkinseeds are fairly social and often school together, so they shouldn't be much of a problem. The green sunfish are more of a maybe, they're harder to find lately
I don't know what that I could find any green ones this time of year. The one I had was sold to my brother as a cichlid. The pygmy ones are really cute
I like pumpkinseeds a lot. The pale olive body with the bright orange belly and that iridescent vermiculation is just stunning. They definitely rival tropical species
Sometimes I feel like a contradiction for both being a fishkeeper and a fly fisherman. Granted, I only use barbless hooks and do everything to minimize stress before release when fishing (with the occasional exception of yellow perch and crappies because they're delicious and I can't resist keeping a few for the freezer)
Seems the only viable time to get perch on a fly rod is from iceout to the end of spawning season in early May, the rest of the year they tend to hold around deepwater structures

These are not species of concern. They're not like the fish I used to get from breeders that only exist in captivity. I feel bad when I fail with those.
Most panfish will pretty quickly overpopulate waters if you don't harvest a few from time to time

That's why a lot of times you only see small sunfish in smaller ponds...they reproduce too quickly, then competition for food leads to them being stunted
Where I fish, the DCNR actually sinks old Christmas trees into lakes to provide hiding places for fish. There's also a lot of natural sunken wood and rocks. Perch seem to prefer rocky structure over things like weedbeds
They don't look very aerodynamic...wonder if they'll tangle lines with repeated casting

I only have 2 major things to worry about next year. Furpoc in October and my own personal Furmeet in Eastern PA in Knoebels Amusement Resort.
The latter is only a 1 day event buuuut we rent a cabin on-site for the entire week and a bunch of furry friends all live there at the park for that time. Loads of fun, AND others can stay on the attached campground if the cabin fills up ^.^

Mollys are savage. Dont let their size or cuteness deceive you. They Bully my male Beta all the time aswell as my other peaceful fish. The killifish do also, but mostly during meal time
I agree with you on the cuteness. They're not really community fish in the strict sense. Common bettas are usually pretty nasty too. I can only imagine how bad your molly mob is. Gang beating for trying to take food bad?

Deep-bodied tetras (most of the Hyphessobrycon species) can also be surprisingly nasty. Especially serpaes and bleeding heart tetras in my experience

Weve had 4 different betas over the years and this one is just a punk lol the other would bully the Mollys but this one wont. Weve about 5 male mollys in this tank. Had to seperate the females because we learned the hard way how much and how fast mollys repopulate and x.x it was a cute but annoying situation lol theyve been trying to nip at his fins too

I have a partial with a foam head, so I don't have to protect it as much. I went with a big Cabela's duffel. Can tote it around on my shoulder pretty easily and since it's not rigid, I can fit it in the car more easily
